Sean is a doctoral-level clinician whose experiences range across the lifespan with both acute and chronic conditions. He has helped individuals at outpatient, partial-hospital, and inpatient levels of care within large network organizations. His specialties include eating disorders, substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma, mood disorders, and developmental assessment. He has held certifications in substance abuse and domestic violence counseling and has conducted several lectures professionally. Sean takes an integrated therapeutic approach, focusing on cognition and behavioral reinforcement, while simultaneously addressing the family system as a whole. He has adept skills in group facilitation, psychoeducation, research, and teaching. Sean has a calm yet direct demeanor; his approach includes empathic listening, solution-focused suggestions, brain and body education, and cognitive tips for navigating mood and relational distress. He holds the belief that anyone can recover with the right motivation, honesty, and accountability.
Sean obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and prior to his graduate program worked as an addictions counselor in the Chicagoland area for 5 years. Sean proceeded to acquire his Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (ISPP). During this time, he served at a domestic violence shelter, serving women and children of color who had been displaced by domestic violence. He was recently on staff at a local behavioral health hospital, serving individuals with eating disorders and psychoses. In addition to his clinical work, Sean served as a board member of a non-profit organization that provided gym memberships and community integration for youth in recovery. Sean completed his diagnostic practicum with Mental Health Solutions and has returned as a postdoctoral fellow. |
